Calculation of parameters of end-systolic pressure-volume relation in the ventricles
نویسنده
چکیده
The slope and intercept of a non-linearmodel of the end-systolic pressure–volume relation (ESPVR) are calculated by using a previously derived mathematical formalism describing the pressure–volume relation (PVR) in the left ventricle. An important feature of this mathematical approach is the inclusion of the peak isovolumic pressure Pisom in the formalism describing the PVR in the left ventricle. The mathematical procedure used in this study is simple and can be easily implemented in a non-invasive way for clinical applications; only the ventricular pressure Pm near end-systole needs to be estimated. © 2011 Elsevier Ltd. Effect of arterial impedance changes on the end-systolic pressure-volume relation.
To study the end-systolic pressure-volume relationship of left ventricle ejection against physiological afterload, we imposed seven simulated arterial impedances on excised canine left ventricles connected to a newly developed servo-pump system. We set each of the impedance parameters (resistance, capacitance, and characteristic impedance) to 50, 100, and 200% of normal value (resistance: 3 mm ...

Background: In certain conditions, there is a need for a specific and improved measure of cardiac performance. Routine methods for assessing left ventricular (LV) function are based on image-analysis or right heart monitoring which do not allow evaluation of ventriculo-arterial interaction. Chen et al presented a noninvasive method allowing measurement of end-systolic pressure–volume relation ...
متن کاملESPVR and the Mechanics of Ventricular Contraction
This study is written in a way to stress the importance of introducing the active force generated by the myocardium in the formalism describing the pressure-volume relation (PVR) in the left ventricle. Various clinical applications of the end-systolic pressure-volume relation (ESPVR) are also discussed. Attention is given to the calculation of the ejection fraction (EF) and the myocardial longi...
متن کاملThe use of left ventricular end-ejection pressure and peak pressure in the estimation of the end-systolic pressure-volume relationship.
The end-systolic pressure-volume relationship (ESPVR) as derived from left ventricular pressure-volume loops has gained increasing acceptance as an index of ventricular contractile function. In animal experiments the ESPVR has been defined as a line connecting the upper left corners of several differently loaded pressure-volume (P-V) loops with a slope parameter Ees and a volume axis intercept ...
متن کاملEffects of coronary arterial pressure on left ventricular end-systolic pressure-volume relation of isolated canine heart.
In the excised canine left ventricle, the end-systolic pressure-volume relationship (ESPVR) has been shown to be approximately linear over the working range of loading conditions when coronary arterial pressure (CAP) is maintained constant, independent of loading conditions. To investigate the ESPVR under the more intact physiological condition in which the CAP varies with loading on the left v...
